About Me
April 13th, 2006One of the things I think everyone needs to do with their lives is to create a personal mission statement. It has taken lots of introspection and reading for me to arrive at my purpose in life. I am thankful that purpose is now clear.
It is my goal to help others lead a happier and more fulfilling life by relieving one of the major stresses we all face - money issues. I want to use my knowledge of personal finance, investing, and economics to create affluence among as many people as possible so that we may all lead more joyous lives with our family and friends.
I am presently a student in the Masters program for Personal Financial Planning at Georgia State University. (Update: I received my Masters Degree in May 2007 and received an award for 'Most Outstanding Graduate Student' in my major.) I chose to go back to school and get a masters because I truly love the world of personal finance. I spend a great deal of time reading about the topic and all sorts of other related topics. My library consist of well over 100 books on investing, personal finance, economics, and mathematics related to those topics.
I have a BS in Management from Georgia Tech. I spent the first part of my adult life in software development. 6 years ago I set out on my own to do consulting. I did lots of contract work but now I make my living running several different internet businesses.
I have done my own accounting and tax work for all the businesses (and several other small businesses I work with). Being self-employed requires one to learn a lot more about personal finance than the average person. I am now intimately familiar with entity selection and setup, health insurance plans, and other things primarily in the realm of the self-empoyed.
My ultimate goal is to get my CFP certification (Update: I passed the CFP Exam in July 2007) and start my own financial planning practice (Update: I started my own Registered Investment Advisor firm Black Swan Financial, Inc.). This blog is sort of a way to log my thoughts and ideas as I go along. I truly believe that the best value I can provide to others is to help them with their financial issues.
I am hyper-analytical and tend to look at everything in focused detail. I don't want to regurgitate the popular finance notions of the day. You won't find ideas about saving money with coupons here. I hope to be able to bring some unique perspectives to the world of personal finance.
Comments and questions are always welcome. I would prefer to be more interactive with my readers than less. If you want my opinion on something then ask!!!
